“In your prayers, do not babble…
Your Father knows what you need before you ask him” (Matthew 6:7-8).

Babbling is not the same thing as repeating.
Repeating may express a desire with intensity… but babbling shows a lack of trust.
To babble –
is to believe that one has not been heard,
is to think that one’s desire has not been understood,
is to be convinced that by speaking much one will draw attention,
is to expect that the more one repeats, the greater the chance to be granted one’s petition.
It is simply… rambling on!
And it is an insult to this Father of whom Jesus has said that he knows what we need.
But he can also forgive this insult and transform it into a trustful prayer…
