There are some questions that worry us, they follow us, they are something of an obsession…
They are more than important – it is absolutely essential for us to find the answer to these questions.
The question asked of Jesus today is one of them.
“Teacher, which is the greatest commandment in the Law?” (Matthew 22:36).
In other words :
« What must I do to inherit eternal life?” (Luke 10:25)
It seems that, for Jesus, the answer is very simple:
“You must love the Lord your God with all your heart,
With all your soul and with all your mind…
You must love your neighbour as yourself.” (Luke 10:27-28)
ALL… ALL… ALL…
It is simple, yes, but how demanding!
And the demand goes as far as being impossible for us to separate God from the neighbour…
This neighbour which includes… ourselves…
Imperfections and weaknesses included!
A simple answer… an on-going demand… to live accordingly…
