What can we give to God?
Could it be that two small coins are enough?
It seems that it is so, if…
The scene that is presented to us today has something quite unique – it offers us a truly astonishing message (Luke 21:1-4).
The message that leads us to believe that, even though we have very little, we can give something to God.

We see a widow who, discreetly, comes to bring her offering to the Temple of Jerusalem.
Of course, there are rich people who put in their contribution to the Treasury.
She, the poor widow, has put in two coins, only two small coins…
But Jesus has noticed the poor widow and he wants that the people around may also note her gesture.
He draws their attention, saying:
“Truly I tell you, this poor widow has put in more than all the others.
All these people gave their gifts out of their wealth;
but she out of her poverty put in all she had to live on.”
What tis woman has given and that Jesus has admired so much is the… ‘all’…
“All she had to live on.”
The ‘all’ of her poverty is so much more precious than the offerings of those who are well-off.
Two small coins – “This is ridiculous for the Treasury of the temple”, some people would say.
But God’s accounting practices ignore such critical judgements.
She has risked all on God – he cannot ask for more!
