We want to know God, we try to find out more about him.
We read books and articles, we listen to teachers and preachers.

What if he, himself, told us what he is, the kind of God he truly is?
Of course, we cannot be told everything about him in a single text, but we are given something very important.
Important because it reveals something about his relationship with us –
the relationship that he wants as much as we do…
No, more still, because he is the one who has put into our heart the desire to know him.

In the last two verses of the Psalm used as a response to the 1st reading, God reveals himself (Psalm 91:1-2,10-15):

“Because he loves me,” says the Lord, “I will rescue him;
I will protect him, for he acknowledges my name.
He will call on me, and I will answer him;
I will be with him in trouble,
I will deliver him and honor him.

Who is the ‘he’ referred to in this text?
It is the person – everyone – who calls on God saying:
“My God, in whom I trust.”

In the reading following this Psalm, we hear the Apostle Paul writing to the first Christians of Rome.
He assures them that:
“Anyone who believes in him (God) will never be put to shame” (Romans 10:11).

This is valid for us as well!
Shall we dare to call on God… “My God, in whom I trust” and receive his promise?…
